FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State University athletic department and its multimedia rightsholder LEARFIELD announced today that a nationwide search will begin immediately for the next radio play-by-play voice of Bison football and men’s basketball.
The “Voice of the Bison” fills a unique and exciting role with NDSU Athletics. In addition to radio play-by-play duties, the candidate will host weekly coaches’ shows on radio and television during the football and men’s and women’s basketball seasons.
This position also serves as the sports director for North Dakota State’s flagship radio partner, Radio FM Media-owned Bison 1660. Working alongside the Bison 1660 program director, the sports director will elevate the NDSU Athletics brand through year-round NDSU programming, content and daily talk shows.
Bison 1660 is one of 25 stations on the Pioneer Seeds Bison Radio Network, which provides statewide NDSU football coverage in North Dakota, most of northwest Minnesota, and extends into the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area. Network coverage of Bison football includes a 1-hour pregame show and 30-minute postgame show.
In addition to football and basketball games, Bison 1660 also broadcasts a select number of NDSU volleyball, soccer, wrestling, baseball and softball games throughout the year. The station launched in 2016 with Jeff Culhane as the “Voice of the Bison” for six years before accepting a new position at Florida State. Rob Hipp covered the 2022-23 football and men’s basketball seasons.
