NDSU women’s basketball has won 20-plus games in each of the last two seasons and made three straight trips into postseason play. This last season they won 21 games culminating in a late March run to the Great 8 of the WNIT.
The Bison have also played some high level opponents with many of those contests being at home in recent years. The Golden Gophers of Minnesota came up to Fargo for a game at the Scheels Center in November of 2022. A game in which the Bison won 71-65 in front of nearly 1,800 people.
In 2023 NDSU opened the season against Creighton in Sioux Falls before a return trip to the Twin Cities against Minnesota. Later that season NDSU would travel to Ames for a matchup with a Big12 opponent in Iowa State. The Bison also made a run into the postseason hosting Montana and traveling to Minnesota again in the WNIT.
Last season NDSU opened up by hosting one of the top mid-major teams in the country in Drake before several lengthy road trips. They went to the state of Washington to face another BigTen team in Washington and Boise St. Another postseason run in the WNIT brought New Mexico St., Washington St. and Troy into Fargo. The 3 home WNIT games brought over 4,700 fans into the Scheels Center.
Another high level team will be coming to Fargo this next season early in the non-conference slate. Bison women’s Head Coach, Jory Collins was on BISON 1660 with The Insiders on Friday and mentioned that NDSU will have a home non-con game against Gonzaga out of the WCC. When asked about the schedule next year Coach Collins said “We’re gonna get Gonzaga in the SHAC next year” exact date to be announced but it will be early in November “That will be a home non-con matchup that should be a lot of fun” Said Collins. This will be the first ever meeting between the Bison and the Zags.
Last season Gonzaga went 24-11 winning the regular season title in the WCC before a deep run in the WBIT. In 2023-24 Gonzaga made it to the Sweet-16 of the NCAA tournament before falling to 1-seed Texas.
NDSU has also announced a game against Nebraska in Sioux Falls at the Sanford Pentagon on November 16th.
